Windows Me is a supported platform and JRE 1.4.2_03 is a
supported JVM.
I don't see what you mean by "b) "Main-window couldn't be
created" : is it a message error ? it is not from Jajuk.
Whish Jajuk version do you use ?
Try to install latest release : 0.1.6, remove your ".jajuk"
directory in you home directory and try again. Please tell
me if you always have this problem, it could be a bug. In
this case, send me you jajuk.log file in the .jajuk directory.

1) "Main-window couldn't be created": yes, that's a message
box with an "ok" button and yellow exclamation mark icon.
jajuk version was 0.1.5.

2) downloaded new jajuk version (0.1.6): same problem.

this is log including 0.1.5 messages (in english) and 0.1.6
(in italian : actually it says the same thing ;) )

Oh yeah! It worked finally !!!!!

I managed to start it up by launching the jajuk.jar
directely from within firefox..... so it works and there is
not the error.

Btw, by doing a quick search i found same error message
would come up with some february version of azureus, the
torrent client.

Btw2, on this machine i run the uninstall for the microsoft
jvm, but i guess that hasn't anything to do with the problem

I don't see... I can't find any doc about this problem on
the net.
Could you edit the Jajuk shortcut and replace 'javaw' by
'java' and send me the output in the DOS window if there
are some new messages ?

I found references here:
http://groups.google.it/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22main-window+couldn%27t+be+created%22&btnG=Search
pointing to azureus and/or windows (98/ME) in general.

That's what fits in the dos window as of the error after
replacing javaw with java:

Ok, cool but it is pretty anoying if jajuk doesn't start out
of the box for WME. If you have time, thanks to send me some
more information about it. I can't imagine Azureus is the
only Java project working on WME/JRE 1.4.2 and which lauch a
window ;-) but it's the lone reference on this on the net.
Please send me you DOS trace as described in my previous
message if possible...

I'm not sure your problem is linked with Azureus because
Jajuk is written in Swing and Azureus in SWT. I have no idea
of the origin of this problem. Perhaps could you try to
upgrade to 1.4.2_04 ?
It would be nice if you could try Jajuk on another Windows
95/98 and especially ME box, I don't know anybody with this
platform so I can't reproduce it...

Upgrading to 1.4.2_04 hasn't changed the behaviour.

I also tested various azureus versions (2.0.7, 2.0.8,
2.0.8.2) which should have had the same error according to
the messages on the net, but they would work ok. This
notwithstanding it seems some "startup error" BUG
specifically addressing windows 98/ME should have been fixed
between version 2.0.8 and 2.0.8.2. But that's all i can find
about it. I am not a programmer so i can't work out any
other similarities which could help. Just to mention it:
there is a java file containing all the platform specific
code (!) that is called systemproperties.java, if i am not
wrong.

Anyway, i tryied installing a fresh java 1.4.2_04 on a
windows 98 se machine and ....
after the same old reboot....
yes, the same message..... it's cross-platform ;)

Added a note in the installation guide. I will try to debug
it if I find a Me box some days. Please report if the given
workaround doen't work or if you have more information about
this problem.

I hope that I have some time somewhere next week to infect a
local box with ME, I will try to reproduce the problem..
If I forget I posted this (and since my memory is quite bad
it is not unlikely) and have not reposted at the 1st of
February you could send me an email at
erik_renes@hotmail.com reminding me of this post ;)

After testing with my freshly installed ME and JDK1.4.2_04
it indeed gave the same error (0.1.6)
I then tried to use the current release (0.3.2) and that one
worked flawlessly.
I think this bug is resolved.. whatever it was :x

OK thanks for your tests. However, I don't see any packaging
change dealing with this king of problem...

you feel up to it ;) ), perhaps it makes more sense to you
